Sake & Grill MAEDAYA is featured in an article called IZAKAYA RISING on a Melbourne's first independent online magazine
BROADSHEET which has been launched just yesterday!
www.broadsheet.com.auThe story is about a new IZAKAYA style restaurants recently opened in Melbourne such as Izakaya Den in Russel St & Izakaya Ichi Ni in St Kilda along with
Sake & Grill MAEDAYA in Richmond.
Congratulations for Broadsheet launch & thank you very much for featuring Maedaya!
Tomorrow 14 April is my restaurant Sake & Grill MAEDAYA’s 1st Anniversary!
It’s already 1 year since we opened MAEDAYA and I can’t believe how soon it was. I feel like the time goes twice faster since I hit age 30. Anyway, I would like to say a big thank to everyone who supported MAEDAYA for last 12 months including all our friendly staff, suppliers & especially our very important customers. I am sure MAEDAYA isn’t what it is now without your help.
To appreciate your support, we would like to offer you some special service during MAEDAYA 1st ANNIVERSARY WEEK (Tue 14 April to Sat 18 April).
At ground floor Yakitori Izakaya sake bar, I would like to come up to all tables by myself and offer you some free sake that is MAEDAYA 2008’s most popular sake AWA TENSUI HEAVEN’S WATER. (Unfortunately this sake no longer will be imported to Australia.)
Also at upstairs Yakiniku Japanese BBQ restaurant, our famous floor manager HIRO will serve you some free hand made hot desert that is called MITARASHI DANGO, the skewered rice balls grilled over charcoal and dipping into a sweet soy sauce.
Please come and celebrate MAEDAYA 1st ANNIVERSARY with us this week.
Thank you very much again for all your support and hope to see you soon!

HANARANMAN KOMACHI DAIGINJO is one of the best products comes from Ranman Shuzo in Akita. It has a beautiful flowery aroma with a honey sweet & rich body. It’s perfect sake to start a meal with or even after the meal as a desert. Usually we only sell by a bottle but this time, we will offer you a glass size for you to enjoy tasting.
Also, a new comer in our Shochu collection is
TANTAKATAN, Shiso Japanese mint Shochu from Hokkaido. It has a very smooth touch on your palate with a slight sour taste just like Japanese plum. It’s so easy to drink on the rock even during the meal.
Please come and try the new products from Japan at Maedaya. Limited time only so don’t miss out !!

Valentine’s Day Kiss
This coming Sat 14 Feb is a special day for the lovers known as St Valentine’s Day. In Japan, it is the day for female to give a chocolate to a male as a statement of LOVE, but here in Australia, it’s more likely a day for male to treat female with extra love.
At Maedaya, I will make a special sake cocktail to make your day even more special. It’s called “Valentine’s Day Kiss”. (If you were living in Japan late 80’s, you know what I picked up a name from.) It’s a strawberry flavoured Shochu spirit on the rocks garnished with Japanese cherries. It’s sweet & tasty and you can share one glass between two of you nicely.
To taste this special cocktail, there is one thing you need to do. At 7:15pm & 9:30pm, Maedaya both floors,we will have Cheek to Cheek Time. You just have to show us how much you love each other by kissing on your cheeks. Don’t be shy and just do as you feel.
It’s a special dinner with your special person & having a special cocktail to share.
Come and Try Maedaya Valentine’s Day Special

In Maedaya, we have 26 small boxes with key locks. It’s called SAKE LOCKER and it is simply for keeping an opened sake bottle for the customers to finish up at the next visit.
There are some rules for SAKE LOCKER.
- Sake needs to be Shochu or Umeshu bottle. Because it will be kept in room temperature, no air conditioned box, we can only keep Spirits such as Shochu or Umeshu.
- If you really want to keep your opened Nihonshu (rice wine) bottle, now we will keep your bottle in Sake Locker up to 2 weeks (but NO GUARANTEE FOR ITS QUALITY CHANGE after 2 weeks)
- You have to come back to Maedaya to finish your bottle in 2 months after the bottle opening date. (Otherwise, your bottle will be thrown away by sake master.)
- Your locker key is kept safely by sake master so you have to leave your name & contact number for identification.
- One person can have one locker only.
Generally, bottle keep service is common in Japanese pubs. Of course, if you drink sake by bottle, it’s a lot cheaper than by the glass so if you know which sake to drink, it’s better for you to order by bottle. (Especially when you can keep it in your own locker until the next visit.)
At the moment, we have 8 Sake Lockers available. Now is a time for you to own your Sake Locker for the first time. Of course, you can feel free to ask me for any questions & suggestion to choose a right sake bottle. (Sometime, we have a secret Special of the Month too.)
For the first MAEDAYA SAKE OF THE MONTH in 2009, I would like to introduce
Shochu & Awamori as Special Sake Tasting. Shochu is a Kyusyu area’s traditional distilled spirit and the average alcohol contain is 25%. It is stronger in flavour than Sake (rice wine) so people in Japan often drink it with ice rocks or water mix.
Awamori is Okinawa’s traditional distilled spirit and it is said the oldest distilled alcohol invented in Japan. Awamori has been consumed in Okinawa since 15 century.
Same as Shochu, you can drink Awamori with ice rocks or water mix. My friend in Okinawa told me that the younger people tend to drink Awamori mixed with ice & water and the older people tend to drink it straight or with ice in general.
Both Shochu & Awamori go well with meals, especially with fully tasted food, so please try a Special Sake Tasting at the start and pick up your favourite one for your main meal.
Also, finally we have Japan’s finest single malt whisky
SUNTORY YAMAZAKI 12 YEARS OLD in stock. Made from the finest malted barley, pure water and special yeast stains, aged in 3 different oak barrels, American, Spanish & Japanese for 12 years, SUNTORY YAMAZAKI 12 YEARS OLD has the beautiful aromas of dried fruits and a bit of honey. Taste is very delicate, mellow with woody dry finish. It is a perfect option to finish up your meal. Please come and try this absolute masterpiece of Japanese nature and craftsmenship. (It will be available on Sake Japan very soon!)
